First turns on skis
The U Čápa ski area is about 300 metres from the chalet. Children start on a separate slope with its own children's lift, away from the main runs. There is a ski school with its own lift, ski hire and a ski service.
Thanks to the ski room at the chalet, wet gloves and boots are dry again by morning.
Forest park and marble runs
In the Na Sluneční forest park, about half a kilometre from the chalet, marbles roll down wooden and metal runs, the longest 38 metres. Around them are a fairy-tale stone trail, natural climbing frames and swings. Entry is free all year; you can buy a marble at the Cimrman Lighthouse.
The path is a forest trail and stony in places. A regular pushchair works with some effort; an all-terrain pushchair or baby carrier is easier.
The Cimrman Lighthouse
The wooden lighthouse in the U Čápa area has a viewing platform at 803 m above sea level, reached by 115 steps. At its foot is the Jára Cimrman museum. It is within walking distance of the chalet, so it suits a short afternoon too.
Rack railway and trains in Kořenov
The Tanvald – Kořenov rack railway is the only one in the Czech Republic. The nearest stop is about 2.4 km from the chalet, and Kořenov station, about 10 minutes by car, houses the Rack Railway Museum.
For a full day or a rainy one
Mumlava waterfall near Harrachov is about 20 minutes by car, with an easy path along the river from the town centre. When it rains, children can watch glassmaking at the Novosad & syn glassworks in Harrachov, about 15 minutes by car.
At the chalet with kids
The family room and two maisonettes sleep two to four, with an extra bed on request, and each has its own bathroom. Cook what the kids like in the shared kitchen, and keep bikes and balance bikes in the garage.
